If you're from Chicago, you would instantly recognize the name "John Wayne Gacy". John Wayne Gacy Born (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994) was a notorious American serial killer and sex offender who assaulted, tortured, and murdered at least thirty-three young boys in Norwood Park Township, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

When detectives took John Wayne Gacy's mug shot, they inquired about his place of birth. Gacy replied, "I was born in the state of confusion," which explains the broad smile on his face.

This man left a dreadful legacy. He was a closeted homosexual with an attraction to young children. If you appeared youthful and caught his attention, Gacy was already planning his next victim.

Gacy himself had two daughters, but neither of his marriages lasted, and he never remarried. During his killing spree, Gacy murdered approximately 33 children in Chicago, Illinois. He could have killed more if the police department hadn't been tracking and monitoring his actions closely.

Gacy interred 27 bodies beneath his home, and those he couldn't accommodate there, he disposed by scattering their remains in various locations. The investigation began with the disappearance of a boy named Robert Jerome Piest. He was an American youth who had never been in trouble with the law, and his parents described him as a very good kid.

Robert Piest was at his workplace when he encountered Gacy, who offered him a job with his contracting company. After Robert shift ended, he went outside the store to discuss the job offer with Jhon Gacy, and Robert Piest was never seen again. A few hours after Robert disappeared, his parents went to the police to report him as a missing person. Since Robert was known as a good kid with no intentions of running away, the investigation began immediately.

One detective took the case very seriously because he had a son the same age as Robert, and his main goal was to bring "Robert" back home before it was too late. But unfortunate it was too late "Robert" was already dead.

Since the day Robert investigations began, his case connected to other cold cases in Chicago, Illinois, which were eventually solved thanks to the persistence of the investigators who never gave up on that case.

What led Gacy to target young children? Gacy had a close bond with his mother and two sisters but experienced a strained relationship with his alcoholic father, who was both verbally and physically abusive to his family. Gacy's father often demeaned him, labeling him as "dumb and stupid" and unfavorably comparing him to his sisters. One of Gacy's earliest childhood memories involved his father beating him at the age of four for accidentally rearranging car engine parts.

His mother tried to shield her son from his father's abuse, resulting in accusations that he was a "sissy" and a "mama's boy" who would "probably grow up queer said Gacy father." In 1949, Gacy's father beat him after he and another boy were caught sexually fondling a young girl. That same year, a family friend would molest Gacy. Gacy never told his father, fearing that he would be blamed. Despite their strained relationship, Gacy loved his father but felt he was "never good enough" in his father's eyes. Gacy was a child who struggled with being overweight and lacked athletic ability. Due to a heart condition, he was advised to refrain from participating in sports.

When Gacy was in fourth grade, he began having blackouts and was sometimes hospitalized because of them. In 1957, he was also admitted to the hospital for a ruptured appendix. Gacy later calculated that he spent almost a year in the hospital between the ages of 14 and 18, blaming his falling grades on the school days he missed.

Gacy's medical condition was never definitively identified; his father believed he was pretending. At one point, he directly accused his son of feigning illness while he was in a hospital bed.

As John Wayne Gacy grew older, he got involved in politics and was well-regarded at that time. Gacy would dress as a clown and visit nursing homes to entertain the children. However, his real motive was to get close to the children and entice them. This is why Gacy registered himself as a professional clown.

Gacy had a rope trick when he was about to kill his victims. He would place the rope in their head and turn it in a way that their body's would react to death quickly.

Since Gacy was the main suspect in the disappearance of Robert Piest, investigators asked him to go to the police station to give a statement about where he was that night. Gacy agreed, saying he would be there if he could help in any way he would. However, he did not appear until the following day.

When Gacy eventually arrived at the police station, a warrant was issued to search his house. During the search, investigators discovered items that did not belong to Gacy, including licenses from other kids from different cities. Upon checking these IDs, officers learned that those kids were also missing.

Although no bodies were discovered during the search warrant, investigators were assigned to monitor his action very closely. As Gacy continued with his daily life and grew frustrated with the constant surveillance, he pretended to be unbothered by their presence.

Gacy began frequenting bars, and the investigators would appear there too. Eventually, Gacy would send a few beers to the investigators, thinking that if they were going to trail me, they might as well enjoy themselves.

On several occasions, Gacy informed people that the investigators were his bodyguards and worked for him. All those interviewed by the investigators portrayed Gacy as a very likable individual. No one referred Gacy as a bad person. Gacy often boasted to others about his connections in high places, the properties he owned, and the business he operated.

There were instances when Gacy behaved unusually, engaging in high-speed chases on the highways while investigators trailed him. When the investigators eventually stopped him, they warned him to drive slowly, or else he would leave them no choice but to arrest him.

The officers comprehended the decision not to arrest him immediately. Their goal was to gather evidence for a murder charge rather than just for a high-speed chase. Investigators later started interviewing the young employees of Gacy. They reported that Gacy would instruct them to go to his house to dig holes in the crawl space, but he also cautioned them about a foul issue. The kids followed Gacy instructions, applying a chemical to mask the odor. Lime is what he Gacy called it.

When investigators first visited Gacy's home, they found a receipt of a film that Robert's girlfriend, who worked with him, had placed in Rob's jacket the night he vanished. When they spoke to Robert's girlfriend, she recalled placing that receipt in Robert's jacket that night. The investigators finally confirmed that Robert was with Gacy at the time he disappeared.

When Gacy eventually arrived at his attorney's office, he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. So Gacy took a nap in the attorney office, his attorney went out and advised the investigators not to let him leave. When Gacy awoke from his nap, he appeared angry and full of hatred as he headed to his car. The attorney instructed the investigators to shoot his tire, ensuring he wouldn't be able to leave the premises.

After leaving, Gacy headed to a restaurant named Leo's, where he met up with one of his associates. During their time at the restaurant, Gacy admitted to his associate that he had murdered 33 people and gave his friend a bag of marijuana. The associate then rushed outside the restaurant, spotted the investigators, and informed them of Gacy's confession.

Gacy rushes out of the food place and gets right back into his car and heads to expressway. There the investigators follow him one last time and the speed chase begins again. during the speed chase a second warrant to search Gacy house was made.

Eventually, Gacy was arrested for murder. When investigators requested his statement, they noticed he was in a different, more positive mood. From that day on, Gacy never experienced freedom again. Since Robert wasn't found in the crawl space, the investigators asked Gacy to reveal where he had buried Robert.

Gacy then faked a heart attack. While Gacy was in the hospital, which benefited the investigators by giving them time to search his home. As a result, when they started digging in the crawl space of Gacy's house, the first human remains were discovered.

Gacy deceived the investigators by asserting that the body of the "Robert Piest" body was located both above and below ground. Eventually, Gacy's attorneys approached the investigators, indicating that Gacy wished to provide another statement.

When investigators questioned Gacy about what happened to Robert Piest that night, Gacy began his explanation. He stated that he was in the back alley when Rob approached him inquiring about a job. Gacy told Robert that he had applications in the car and suggested they get in so Rob could fill one out. Consequently, they both got into Gacy's car.

Gacy began checking to see if he had any applications in his car, then told Rob that he didn't. He mentioned that he had some at his home and that he didn't live far away. Rob agreed they go, saying it would be quick. While they were in Gacy house he decided to show Rob some magic tricks just to impress Rob.

Gacy demonstrated his handcuff trick to Robert, who was impressed and curious about how Gacy managed to escape. Gacy invited Rob to try it himself, leading Rob to put on the handcuffs. When Rob attempted to free himself but couldn't, he asked Gacy how can I get them off. Gacy laughed and revealed that the trick is by having the key. Gacy laughed more.

Gacy initiated his typical pattern by murdering Robert. He rendered Rob unconscious and was on the verge of sexually assaulting him when the phone rang—it was his aunt calling to notify him of his uncle's death. After ending the call, Rob was already unconscious. Gacy proceeded to rape Robert and then completed the act of killing him.

Gacy informed the detectives that his first victim was a male prostitute. Following their sexual encounter, the victim attempted to steal from him, leading to a violent altercation in which Gacy killed him with a knife. He noted that it took him two hours to clean the entire kitchen. This event led him to develop a method of killing his victims without leaving any blood. At the time of his first victim, Gacy was still married and had to swiftly clean up the house to prevent his wife from seeing the blood.

Gacy's mindset was that he was never responsible for the murders. He placed the blame on the kids, claiming they were the ones requesting money. As a result, Gacy didn't believe he was doing anything wrong. He said that the kids brought it a pond them self.

Gacy was apprehended in December 1978, and his trial took place in 1980, where he was convicted on all 33 counts of murder and sentenced to death in Illinois. The investigators had no sympathy for Gacy, only a desire for justice to be served. However, regardless of the justice served, the families will forever endure the pain and tragedy of losing their loved one.

The story of John Wayne Gacy is both horrifying and tragic. He felt compelled to hide his true identity. As a gay homosexual attracted to men, he tragically targeted young boys. Although he didn't have to take their lives, he chose to do so out of fear of societal judgment. As a respected political figure, he felt the need to conceal his sexuality, especially during the 1970s and 1980s. Having been a victim of rape himself, Gacy may have harbored self-loathing, which could have contributed to his actions.

After being sentenced, Gacy was moved to the Menard Correctional Center, where he spent 14 years on death row, frequently asserting his supposed innocence through various contradictory statements. Confined in his prison cell, Gacy took up painting, sometimes creating artwork on commission. He drew inspiration from a variety of sources, portraying subjects ranging from clowns (including himself as Pogo or Patches), Christ, the seven dwarfs, skulls, his own home, Elvis Presley, to John Dillinger. Gacy's paintings have been exhibited and sold at auctions.

On the morning of May 9, 1994, Gacy was transferred to Stateville Correctional Center for his execution. That afternoon, he was allowed to have a private picnic with his family on the prison grounds. For his last meal, Gacy asked for a bucket of KFC, French fries, a dozen fried shrimp, fresh strawberries, and a Diet Coke. That evening, he was given the last rites by a Catholic priest before being taken to the Stateville execution chamber.

At 12:40 a.m., the process of administering the lethal injection commenced, but the chemicals unexpectedly solidified, blocking the IV tube. Gacy, diagnosed as a psychopath, showed no remorse for his actions. His final words to his lawyer before the execution were that his death would not make up for others' losses and that the state was committing murder to him. After his death was confirmed at 12:58 a.m. on May 10, 1994, his brain was removed. He was cremated, and the location of his ashes to this day remains unknown.

Gacy last words to the world were "Kiss My Ass"

I selected a Stevie Nicks song for this story because John Wayne Gacy would kill his victims and dispose some of them in rivers, where nature was present.
