Irene Graza (November 15, 1934 – April 1960) was an American schoolteacher and beauty queen. Her death was the subject of a prolonged investigation until the case was reopened, ultimately bringing justice to the Garza family.
This story is quite unique as it features a priest, a priest is someone we all expect to trust. The last occasion she was observed alive was on April 16, 1960, when she went to confession at a church in McAllen, Texas. She was reported missing the following morning by her loved ones.
Following the largest volunteer search in the Rio Grande valley at that time, Garza's body was discovered in a canal on April 21. An autopsy indicated that she had been sexually assaulted prior to her death, which resulted from suffocation.

John Bernard Feit, the Catholic priest who listened to Garza's final confession, was the sole identified suspect in her murder. The investigation into Garza's death was renewed in 2015 after a new district attorney took office in Hidalgo County. In February 2016, the 83-year-old Feit was arrested.

In relation to Garza's death, he was apprehended in Arizona and subsequently extradited to Texas. His murder trial commenced in late November 2017. On December 7, 2017, Feit was convicted of murder, and the following day, he received a life imprisonment sentence. Feit passed away in February 2020.

Feit was imprisoned at the W.J. Estelle Unit located ten miles (16 km) north of downtown Huntsville, Texas.
No matter how you view this, it's a truly tragic situation because she was so young, and he was much older when he was convicted. Many questions arise, but we will never have the answers now. But at list the Garza family is a peace.
