Christmas is traditionally celebrated as the birth of Jesus, but over the years, its meaning has evolved, leading to the emergence of Santa Claus.
However, one high school gave Christmas a different significance to the community.
It all started with a friend inviting me to an event, and I was surprised by what I discovered there.
While some high schools have events with low attendance, East High School in Weslaco experienced a large turnout in a special event that they started to host a couple of years back, with so many people of the Weslaco community coming together as one.

The East High students, being kids themselves, began giving back to the community to other kids a few years ago. They ended up loving the feeling it brought them in their heart, so they decided to keep it as a tradition.
What truly amazed me was that these wonderful children also visit hospitals, donating their time to see sick kids.
What led these kids to start this activity? After talking to a few of them, they expressed a desire to give back to the community. They weren't compelled by anyone; they made the decision on their own and discussed it with their coaches.

These children collected up to 346 gifts to distribute to other kids, which is always a blessing for those who have nothing on days like this.
I was so surprised because I had never seen a school commit themselves in this way before.
They invited vendors to participate, and many did. As I mentioned to you, I was invited by a friend who was a vendor himself. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have known about this beautiful event.

There's nothing wrong with doing things like this. Being so genuine is something these kids will remember for a lifetime.
These kids are special and they love making other kids feel special as well.
But the main Heros to this story are the personnel that made these wishes come true for the kids.
Congratulations to the Athletic Department for making this possible and ensuring it continues for future generations.
Congratulations, East High School! You have made an outstanding impact on your community, and everyone is incredibly proud of you.
This is genuinely an inspiration that will last indefinitely.
