This is the story of John Lennon, who was taken from us far too soon.

Legacy

John Winston Lennon, born in Liverpool on October 9, 1940, was a founding member of The Beatles, serving as their singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was tragically murdered in New York City on December 8, 1980, by a man name Mark David Chapman.

The assassination of John Lennon in 1980 caused a worldwide outpouring of grief similar to the mourning for a beloved global leader. Millions of fans participated in 10 minutes of silence, and radio stations around the world halted their broadcasts during that period.

Who was Mark David Chapman, and what drove John's assassin to carry out this act?

Mark David Chapman

Mark David Chapman was a Beatles fan and even got John Lennon's autograph on the day he killed him. However, Chapman struggled with the fact that Lennon was a celebrity, while he was not. Chapman once told his friends that he wanted to be just like Jhon Lennon.

So, Chapman thought I'm not famous I'm a nobody what famous person can I kill to get famous; in order to be famous, I have to kill someone famous.

He had in mine Paul Macartney, Jackie Kennedy, Ronald Raygen, even Elizabeth Taylor.

Although Chapman faced numerous issues in his life as a child, he had not encountered any legal troubles before Lennon’s murder.

Why would Chapman want to kill John, then if he saw Lennon as an inspiration? The initial thing that upset Chapman was the remark about Christianity: who would end first, the Beatles or Christianity that Lennon made? By 1980, the Beatles were no longer performing as a group. If Chapman had been more perceptive, he would have realized that the Beatles had ended first. However, Chapman was filled with such malevolence that he couldn't see clearly.

Chapman began to perceive Lennon as insincere and deceitful. Witnessing Lennon's fame and opulent lifestyle, Chapman started to consider. Why did Chapman view Lennon as a fraud? Lennon had a song called "Imagine," where he spoke of a world without possessions and filled with pure love. He also suggested imagining no heaven or hell. However, when Chapman observed Lennon enjoying a lavish lifestyle, he saw Lennon as a liar.

What ultimately pushed Mark David to the edge was Lennon's comment about being more famous than God.

Throughout Lennon carrier, People thought Lennon held the belief that he was more important than God. Could this have been David's motive for killing Lennon? In March 1966 interview, John Lennon of the Beatles remarked that the public was more captivated by the band than by Jesus Christ and suggested that the Christian faith was declining to the extent that rock music might one day surpass it.

After making that comment, people began to dislike Lennon. In numerous other interviews, Lennon mentioned that he didn't understand what he said that was wrong, but he would apologize if necessary. So, why would Chapman want to kill Lennon just because of Lennon's remark?

John Lennon sought nothing beyond peace and love, advocating for these values through his music. In my opinion God placed Lennon here to express divine power through him. However, others saw it differently. We are all here to achieve great things in life, but that doesn't make us greater than God. It signifies our desire to accomplish greatness so that future generations can experience love.

Lennon apologized during several press conferences, clarifying that he was not equating himself with Christ. However, the public had full hate on Lennon. The people wanted the Beatles to leave the United States, harboring significant animosity towards them.

While Chapman saw things differently. Filled with hatred, he focused it on Lennon. Chapman talked about his plans concerning Lennon with his wife, and she merely promised to get him help. The reason she didn't actually provide the help he needed is still unclear.

As news circulated about John's claim of being greater than God, people began burning Lennon's records, and radio stations ceased playing their music. Beatles records were thrown into bonfires.

By that time, the situation had escalated to the point where Chapman traveled to New York, where Lennon lived, and shot Lennon five times in various parts of his body. John's last words were "I've been shot," and he collapsed to the floor. Mark David Chapman did not flee the scene because his agenda was to get famous, so he waited until the officers arrived.

The hotel security confiscated Chapman's gun and immediately questioned him about his awareness of his actions. As Mark David stood there, he pulled out a book and began read. Lennon was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. John was only 40 years old when he passed away.

Yet, Chapman harbored a lot of anger in his mind. During an interview, "Chapman quoted" "This was another thing that fueled my anger, even though this record had been made at least ten years prior. I just felt like shouting, 'Who does he think he is, making these statements about God, heaven, and the Beatles?' Claiming he doesn't believe in Jesus and so on. At that point, my mind was overwhelmed by a total darkness of anger and rage. So, I took the Lennon book home, into this The Catcher in the Rye setting where my mindset resembles Holden Caulfield's and his disdain for phoniness."

Lennon never claimed to be greater than God. He noted that people were regarding the Beatles as if they were more important than God, which was truly occurring. Even today, individuals continue to idolize and revere others in this way. On the day Lennon was shot, the world was overwhelmed with total shock and disbelief.

If you pay attention to John's music, you'll find that he frequently sings about peace, love, and rejecting war and religious judgment. This was his way of advocating through his music, but his comments were often misinterpreted negatively. Even the United States politicians viewed Lennon as a threat for advocating for peace and love.

Six years after Lennon's death, Chapman finally chose to speak about the murder he committed. He now understands that it was a mistake. Although he apologized, the harm was irreversible. We will never know how far Lennon might have gone with his advocacy songs.

In my view, Mark David has it quite easy. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the cost of Lennon’s death. If Lennon were alive today, he would be 85 years old. However, his fate was taken away by someone driven by selfish thoughts.

John is survived by two sons, Julian and Sean Lennon, from two different marriages. Despite both brothers do get along with each other.

No matter what lifestyle a person leads, they put in effort to attain it. John's sole wish was for love to be widespread. He had the right intentions, but it's unfortunate that his life was cut short because of a misunderstanding.

In Conclusion

May Jhon Lennon be at peace and thank you for the legacy that you left. Your legacy will live forever.
