It is truly heartbreaking when a kind individual, simply striving to make the world a better place, is targeted because they identify as LGBTQ. The world's failure to embrace everyone deeply saddens me. Those who commit such hate crimes cannot grasp the damage they inflict on a person. LGBTQ children often fear revealing their identity to their parents for various reasons, including this. I believe that no one should have to live in fear.

What drives individuals to harbor such strong animosity towards the LGBTQ community? There must be a significant reason behind their hostility. I was greatly mistaken in thinking that the LGBTQ community was finally being accepted and that societal attitudes were evolving. Adam Graham, the first openly gay mayor of Oklahoma City, announced his resignation, citing concerns about no longer feeling safe in his role.

In their report, the officers involved mentioned that, although they were unaware of the situation, they would treat the report with seriousness. In his resignation letter, "Graham" mentioned experiencing harassment at a Starbucks, being followed home from meetings, having his tires slashed, and receiving threats while walking his dog. Several others also resigned due to concerns about their safety or discrimination related to their gender identity or sexual orientation.

We are slowly facing extinction because of the achievements we've strived so hard for, solely due to the animosity of homophobic individuals.

I encourage everyone who aims to make a difference in the world to keep a positive attitude and persevere. If we give up, we all lose.

This story is dedicated to the mayor of Oklahoma City who faced this tragic event. Your efforts will not go unrecognized. You are, and will always be, a living legend. Thank you, "Adam." Keep championing LGBTQ rights for future generations.
